DISCLAIMER

This blog is where I record a limited depiction of my feelings, family, and faith. My blog was recently under intense scrutiny, and so I feel this disclaimer is necessary. I try to tell my story as openly as I can, but this blog represents a cropped and narrow-viewed version of my story -- like all social media -- it is NOT the full story. Many events happen behind the scenes that are not recorded or written about, due to the sensitive nature of others involved. Life has many layers. Many layers can be shared and many cannot, and this blog is simply a layer of my life that I allow others to view, but it is not an accurate depiction of all the layers of my life.

Be Prepared

If you are prepared, you have no need to fear, right? Right.

With all of the Worldwide turmoil and natural disasters that have been going on, Charles and I have felt the need to work on our food storage, and emergency preparation.

When we lived in Alaska, being prepared for an emergency was just a part of life. You live each day walking on the land of the Great 1964 earthquake. (You can google it.) Earthquakes are just a part of life there. Not to mention the fact that Alaska is extremely isolated, and cut-off from the rest of the United States. And in the winter, the conditions can become very dangerous. So, because of the extreme conditions of the land, many Alaskan are also exceptionally prepared for anything. If you live in Alaska you know extreme. You are extreme!

But since Charles and I moved away to the "Lower 48" we have not been as diligent as we once were. And now, we feel the great need to "step it up a notch" (lots of notches!) and be better prepared for emergencies. Yes, even here in Idaho.

Over the years, we have been working on our food supply here and there, but we had mostly big bags of rice and beans, and the bland stuff. We have a lot of people in our family now, so we have been working on getting things that would actually resemble food that the family would eat.

The blue containers are the "grab and go" water.
We have also been working on our water storage. We went and got a huge tank that we keep in the garage. I believe it is like 80 gallons of water. This thing is huge, and I would like a few more. (We have a water purifier, too.)
We also prepared our 72 hour kits. These are your, "Quick, get out of the house!" packs, in case of who knows what? They are full of regular clothing/winter clothing, socks, undies, first aid, food, flashlights, diapers, wipes, feminine products (don't forget those!), toilet paper, etc. Enough for our family of 6 to "survive" for a few days.
And this is me the way I would look if there was an emergency, nasty hair, and no make-up -- but happily grabbing my Mountain House food... Yum!
Are you prepared for an emergency?

The best thing to do is start simple, and work your way up to a year supply. Just buy an extra bag of food every time you go shopping. Or just save bottles, and fill them full of water. By small and simple things are great things brought to pass! And please do not tell me you do not have room to store food/water. There are 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 6 people in our house. If we can do it, you can do it, too! Just get creative. Make a couch out of rice bags. :-)

I cannot tell you the peace of mind it brings me to have some necessities on hand. Having the food/water storage -- especially the 72 hour kits -- are huge for my mental peace. If you want to know what I mean, just get started on gathering some food storage, and setting up your kits, and see how you feel.

Peace. Of. Mind.

Who knows what the future brings? We may never, ever, need to use the storage that we have. Perhaps an emergency will never happen. Perhaps the World will go on without any event from this day forward . . .

But as for our family, we feel it is time to be prepared.
