Moving Miracles

I am taking a few moments away from the craziness of moving. We are living in between two houses right now, I am constantly back and forth trying to get things packed, moved, and unpacked. Good times!

I am also in the process of selling my little home, and so it often needs to be in tip-top staging shape for various reasons. That can get exciting with 4 kiddos. It is crazy, but also very exciting. I have this sign that reminds me that, "Happiness is a journey, not a destination." I am trying to enjoy the journey, and not just wish it away, even though it is hard. I know I will look back on these crazy times with great fondness in my heart.

Moving is always an adventure! Life is an adventure!

During this whole process, I have had many miracles. I have been through a gauntlet of emotions for sure, but at the end of the day, the most powerful feeling I have in my heart is gratitude. I am so grateful. I am so grateful, I could burst! I have so much to be grateful for, and I know it. Seriously, my heart is going to have to grow bigger to contain the gratitude that I feel. So many people have been so good to me in so many ways.

Heaven bless them all!

One of the miracles happened just last night. The youth and youth leaders from our Church came to help me clear out all the things in my garage. I have a move with big trucks planned for this Saturday, but I had this idea that having the garage cleared out first would be super helpful. The youth had offered to help me in anyway I wanted, and the garage was at the top of my list of burdens I needed lifted.

At around 7:00pm, a bunch of trucks, youth, and leaders all charged towards my garage with full gusto, and emptied that thing out in 15 minutes. A group of boys also took the trampoline down at record speed. We drove over to the other house and they unloaded everything super fast. It was amazing! Many hands make light work -- it is so true! There was a flurry of excitement and joy, rather than the drudgery that it would have been for just me and the kids to try and get it done. It got done, and they made it happen FAST! I have never seen anything like it. It was a miracle.

Woo! So awesome!

At one point, while unloading at the new house, Sammi dropped an extremely heavy iron antique jewelers wheel on her foot, and cut it open. When I saw it, I was worried it was super deep, it looked awful with blood gushing. I was trying to help people and guide them with things, and keep an eye on Henry who likes to run for it, and we didn't have anything in the house to really help her except some paper towels. All I had to say was, "Sammi is hurt," and all of her Young Women leaders ran around the neighborhood and vehicles to find first aid kits. I think we ended up with 3 different kits from different people and neighbors. Her leaders helped clean and sterilize her wound, and bandaged her up really nicely. She was in pain, but Sammi handled it like a champ, I don't think she was even crying.

When we were done with the move, Sammi started crying with tears pouring down her pretty face. I asked her if she hurt and she said, "No." She said she was crying because of how her Young Women leaders helped her, and how much she loves them. They took such sweet and intense care of her, I think she realized how much they really love her. I started crying too.

So much love... my heart... must grow bigger... to contain it.

After all the work was done, everyone went back to the little house for some treats. It was fun to have a bunch of people there again, it was like the good old days when Charles and I would put on youth firesides in our house. It was always so fun to pack it full of people. They brought an energy into the home that I have missed.

Sometimes my family worries about me, that I am here in Idaho without relatives around me. But, clearly, I am not alone. And Idaho is my home. The people here are as good as they get, and I just love them.

They are my family.

And I am so, very, grateful.

Moving

I am kind of in the thick of thick things right now. I am in the middle of packing, moving, and selling my current home. The last few months have been pretty crazy. The whole thing happened out of the blue, and it was not on my agenda. It has been a whirlwind of activity, excitement, and a whole bunch of different emotions. Whew!

One day I went to an open house, and the next thing I knew, I was packing up and moving! I certainly was not planning on moving right at the beginning of the school year, but you just never know when opportunity will knock, and you can either jump on it, or let the chance for change and adventure pass you by.

I chose to jump this time. I just felt like jumping, so I did it.

Jumping into something so big on a whim is so unlike me. I usually take forever to ponder, analyze, and then finally make a choice a year later. But I had to make a choice, and fast. I had been looking at homes forever, everyday, but I got to the point where I had given up on finding the right home, and I was happy to be content right where we were -- even though our 2 bedroom home became very tight with growing teenagers. We were making it work, and life was good.

I almost didn't go to the open house. I just wasn't interested, not really. My friend, Rachelle, encouraged me to just take a look, and so I looked. (They live just a few houses away from the home.) As I walked around the home, I thought it was nice -- it was very pleasant and well staged. Some of our friends used to own the home, and so the spirit in the house was good too. I wasn't completely convinced, but I decided to go and grab Sammi and see what she thought. When she came, she was pretty excited, she really liked it, and thought it was a good idea. (She never wanted to leave the little house, so I valued her opinion.) Yes, she was being persuaded by our friends being so close.

I stood outside talking to our friends about the home choice, I was wavering and undecided. But as soon as I began to express doubt and fear, a strong wind blew in, and I felt that Charles wanted me to do it. I have witnesses -- 3 of them -- and they can attest that the wind blew... the winds of change blew, and I knew I was meant to jump.

This change is a big one for our family, but it is also a move that makes my children very happy. We are only about a mile from where we have been living, and so everything stays the same for us, besides the home location, the home itself, and the neighborhood. It will be such a blessing to have more space for the kids to grow into. The best thing about the home is that it has 3 bathrooms! Yes! Now that Henry is potty-trained, the 1 bathroom thing has become pretty exciting.

So, I have so many thoughts, I have felt so much, I have been through so much this last little while it has been amazing. Right now I find myself a bit tired from it all, but I have to regain my strength and uncover my moxie again, because starting Monday it is moving time! We move a bit everyday next week, and then we will do the big move on Saturday with trucks and help, and all that good stuff.

I feel strongly that this move will be good for our family in so many ways. It feels like a step -- or a jump -- in the right direction. You just never know when the right moment will come along to make the move... whatever that move may be.

There is a time for patience, and a time for pouncing.

That is the new house in the picture above, more pictures to come once we move in. :)

Looking Back Through My Blog, with Gratitude in My Heart

I love looking back over my own blog. It may seem silly, but it is such a great way for me to learn, to reflect, and to have my heart swell with gratitude for my life.

My life is filled with such beauty and light. I am so grateful for my blog, and that it provides a way to capture my thoughts, my feelings, my family, and I am especially grateful to have pictures of the past to look back on and replay the joyous -- and sometimes not so joyous -- memories.  There is so much to learn from the past, and when I look back over my own life, I realize there is so much I have to be grateful for.

The day after Charles died, I spent a lot of time scrolling through my blog, and I realized what a treasure keeping track of my life has been. If I want to recall a memory, or remember how I felt about something, I can go back and find it. I have always felt inclined to record my life, and Charles was a record keeper too, and what a blessing it has been!

My children love to look at the blog, and I often find them scrolling through it. I really think it helps them so much to have it. It helps them to still feel close to their daddy, because he is still alive on my blog. They can go back and recall precious memories with their awesome dad. My blog will be key when it comes time to teach Henry who his father is. Henry still knows who his daddy is, and can identify him in a picture. I love that. When he is older he can read more about him, and know who he comes from.

After asking myself the question, "Where do I want to be a year from now?" I decided to first look back over the last year, and see where I have been. I went back to October of last year and started scrolling forward. As I looked over all that I have experienced in this last year, I just felt so very thankful for this journey of life. Not all of my memories were pleasant, but they still stirred up feelings of triumph and spiritual education. I also chose not to write a lot of the really unpleasant and personal stuff on my blog, those things are kept for the caverns of my heart, and my personal journal.

Pictures are what I really love. A picture is worth a thousand words they say, and today I offer way too many pictures. I just started grabbing images, moments, memories... So here is a quick review of this last year. Of courses these are just small moments in time, but they unlock so much in my heart when I look at them.

Oh, how I love pictures!
