DISCLAIMER

This blog is where I record a limited depiction of my feelings, family, and faith. My blog was recently under intense scrutiny, and so I feel this disclaimer is necessary. I try to tell my story as openly as I can, but this blog represents a cropped and narrow-viewed version of my story -- like all social media -- it is NOT the full story. Many events happen behind the scenes that are not recorded or written about, due to the sensitive nature of others involved. Life has many layers. Many layers can be shared and many cannot, and this blog is simply a layer of my life that I allow others to view, but it is not an accurate depiction of all the layers of my life.

Mr. Darcy Makes Everything Better

Charles loved watching Pride and Prejudice. We would watch it at least a few times a year, sometimes more. Charles enjoyed watching all the BBC movie series, because he was awesome like that. But his favorite was definitely Pride and Prejudice. (It is my favorite too.) I am not really sure there is anything that can even come close to its magnitude of beauty and charm. If there is such a movie in existence, I have not seen it yet!

It is such a beautiful series. I love to travel to the world of delightful dialogue, enchanting scenery, intricate plots, and real acting. The beauty stands in stark contrast to all these new violent blow-everything-up super hero movies --  I can hardly stand to watch them anymore. I long for captivating dialogue, and interesting characters -- not just a chain of rapid explosions, and destruction. Ugh. Give me a headache!

I must say, the Pride and Prejudice movie is great, and the story is mentally and emotionally thrilling, but Mr. Darcy makes it more than just a movie! There is just no one better than Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. Am I right? Of course I'm right! He is perfectly flawless in this role. Truly, there is no one to compare. Other attempts at filling the role properly, have failed miserably. Colin Firth is Mr. Darcy! I am so glad they found him for the job! Thank goodness!

However, I have thought about one other person, who might be able to pull-off a decent Fitzwilliam Darcy. I am thinking that a Mr. Hugh Jackman might be up to the task... what do you think? He is getting a little too old now, though. Humph. And who could possibly stand next to him as Elizabeth Bennett, and not disappear in Hugh's mighty shadow? Nope, I think the Hugh Jackman as Mr. Darcy ship has sailed, and made port on the other side of aging. Too bad.

Sammi and I decided it was time for a little Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth tonight. I have to make sure I train her up right! She is now at the age where she is thoroughly captivated by these kind of stories. She is lucky to grow-up with these movies -- I was married the first time I saw P&P!

It is really fun to have a daughter who can appreciate the fine things in life like quality BBC movies. I am so glad I do not have to watch them alone, that would be sad. And, following in his dad's glorious footsteps, Daniel enjoys the movies, too. You're welcome, Daniel's future wife!

You may be wondering if love stories are hard for me to watch now, and the answer is no. I love watching love stories! Some of them can be a little painful, but Pride and Prejudice is just wonderful and fun.

The love story I have watched, that caused the most painful reaction, was actually 17 Miracles. It was not a love story as the main plot, but there was one in it, and when I watched it, it about did me in! OUCH! It took me awhile to recover from that moment. I had to leave the room. It just hit too close to home, and when the love-interest (a pioneer man with a beard) died, he looked just exactly like Charles did in his final mortal moments. Sometimes images can trigger unexpected emotions. I was totally fine and then -- BAM! I was a blubbering mess, and the kids were wondering what was wrong with me. That ugly-cry can get really ugly!

But tonight's love story was perfect, there was no need to shed any tears -- except maybe tears of gratitude!

Thank you, Mr. Darcy.

You made everything better. ;)

  2. You can't beat P&P! One of the best BBC movies for sure. :) I love how Sammi looks like she's trying not to laugh in that picture.

  3. I am so looking forward to when my girls are old enough for me to watch P&P with them. Of course, reading it together will be fun, too, but this is one of the RARE occasions when the movie does a book justice!

  5. I love that p&p as well. Very superior. Colin is wonderful and Hugh would've been spectacular as well.

  7. P&P is at the top of my favorite movies list too. Second is North and South, BBC miniseries based on Elisabeth Gaskell's novel. It's not so light, but has a lot of the same tension and main characters are good.
