DISCLAIMER

This blog is where I record a limited depiction of my feelings, family, and faith. My blog was recently under intense scrutiny, and so I feel this disclaimer is necessary. I try to tell my story as openly as I can, but this blog represents a cropped and narrow-viewed version of my story -- like all social media -- it is NOT the full story. Many events happen behind the scenes that are not recorded or written about, due to the sensitive nature of others involved. Life has many layers. Many layers can be shared and many cannot, and this blog is simply a layer of my life that I allow others to view, but it is not an accurate depiction of all the layers of my life.

Where Words Fail Music Speaks

Short Video Clips from Sammi's Choir Concert, and Daniel's Band Solo Festival… (Per Grandma's request.)

I love Music. Music is to the mind, as air is to the body.

Music runs deep in my family. Real deep. Some of us may dabble in sports, and other activities -- but music has been permanently etched upon our hearts by my mother, and will stay with us forever.

We grew-up gathered around my Mother's piano, along with so many countless others influenced by her special gift, including one of my favorite musicians, Hilary Weeks. I can still remember being a young girl listening to Hilary sing in our home, at our piano, and wanting to emulate her voice! She was good friends with my older sister, and they often sang together. Of all the musicians in the world, my Mother, and Hilary, have had the largest influence in my life.  (Hilary's music is part of my "conversion" story, but that is a story for another day.) My mother, well, she put the music in me. Enough said!

"My Mother's Piano," that sounds like a good title for a story…. To think of the masses of humanity that she has played the piano for! From Alaska, to Samoa, to New Brunswick . . . her magic fingers have influenced the lives of so many! She has definitely magnified her talents, and is a great example to us all.

Music is the glue that binds us all together as a family. When our family gets together we sing. It is just what we do. It is what we have always done. We gather around the piano, my mother tells us what to do, and we do exactly what she says. (He, he.) My mom plays, and sings, and conducts us all at the same time. When I think of my mom, I will always have a picture in my mind of her at the piano.

I am so grateful for the gift she has given us!

Allowing music to fill the heart and soul is a tradition that I intend to carry on with my own children. We have tried to infuse their lives with music, and so far they are taking the bait and finding "voices" of their own. We try to expose them to lots of different music, and help them to appreciate good music. Now Sammi has taken the job of singing all the time, and she has even taught Henry all of her songs. (I have GOT to get that on video!) The other night I found Sammi and Henry in her room playing and singing "Let it Go" together, it was SO CUTE! Whether it is using their own voices, or instruments, these kiddos are drawn to music like moths to the flame. And I am grateful!

It is so fun to see them fill their minds and souls with song. It makes my heart sing!

And as my mother recently told me, "All the time you spend at music concerts and programs is worth it!"
