DISCLAIMER

This blog is where I record a limited depiction of my feelings, family, and faith. My blog was recently under intense scrutiny, and so I feel this disclaimer is necessary. I try to tell my story as openly as I can, but this blog represents a cropped and narrow-viewed version of my story -- like all social media -- it is NOT the full story. Many events happen behind the scenes that are not recorded or written about, due to the sensitive nature of others involved. Life has many layers. Many layers can be shared and many cannot, and this blog is simply a layer of my life that I allow others to view, but it is not an accurate depiction of all the layers of my life.

Storm Chasing

We have been so lucky to have storms this week! Hooray! I cannot express the excitement that stirs up inside me, when I see a flash of lightning, and hear the roar of thunder. It is just so cool! Today's storm was better than the one a few days ago, because it had more lightning. The forecast for tomorrow is more storms, I would love that!

As the storm slowly approached our house, we all gathered around the backyard window to watch. It was an awesome show. As it started to pass over our home, I told the kids to get in the car so we could go and chase it. I love to chase storms!
We got everyone in the car and took a little drive...
It is so fun to drive around in thunderstorms. There is something magical about it. It is a thrill. I am always super careful of course, and I would pull over if it got too crazy with rain and wind, but it wasn't too bad tonight. The kids enjoyed the ride.
We went up in the foothills, and had another good show from a different perspective. The temperature was so pleasant, with a slight wind, and the smell of fresh rain -- it was perfect.
The only bolt I caught on camera was totally on accident.
Good times. I could tell as I was driving the kids around that tonight was a night they will remember. I could tell that a memory was being planted in their minds, as we drove around in the dark seeking out the flashes of light. There is something really breathtaking about a flash of light in the darkness.

As the quote in my kitchen says:

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass... it's about learning to dance in the rain." -Vivian Greene.

  3. It might be that your love of storms began with the trip in your brother Bob's truck when we went from Anchorage to Salt Lake in 1995....we traveled down through Alberta with lightning storms going on hour after hour during the middle of the night. While everyone else was asleep, your eyes were big (bigger than usual) with awe at the power of nature. Remember that? -- Dad
