DISCLAIMER

This blog is where I record a limited depiction of my feelings, family, and faith. My blog was recently under intense scrutiny, and so I feel this disclaimer is necessary. I try to tell my story as openly as I can, but this blog represents a cropped and narrow-viewed version of my story -- like all social media -- it is NOT the full story. Many events happen behind the scenes that are not recorded or written about, due to the sensitive nature of others involved. Life has many layers. Many layers can be shared and many cannot, and this blog is simply a layer of my life that I allow others to view, but it is not an accurate depiction of all the layers of my life.

For Good: A Musical Tribute

Sammi and I went to see Wicked last night. We bought the tickets a long time ago, but I was not sure I was up for it. I had many people insist that I go, so I obeyed. I am really glad I went, it was amazing. I made it through the whole show without tears, until the end, when they sang the song, "For Good." My eyes began to sting -- while burning, wet, emotion rolled down my cheeks. I did my best to control my ugly cry, I managed, but I was really close to losing it completely. It was a little too close to home for me right now.

However, I also loved the song, it stayed with me, and the message is permanently etched in my heart. Today, Sammi and I decided we should sing it, and make a little video tribute for Charles. (The song affected her, the same way it did me.) Singing is good therapy, music can be very healing, especially for those of us in this household.

Here it is… Sammi and I singing, "For Good" in honor of our favorite person in the world. We are all better because of him. He has absolutely changed us all for good.

For Good Lyrics:

I've heard it said,
That people come into our lives
For a reason
Bringing something we must learn.
And we are lead to those
Who help us most to grow if we let them.
And we help them in return.
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you.

Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun,
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood.
Who can say if I've been changed for the better
But because I knew you.
I have been changed for good.

It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime.
So, let me say before we part:
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you.
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart.
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you'll have rewritten mine
By being my friend.

Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea.
Like a seed dropped by a sky bird
In a distant wood.
Who can say if I've been changed for the better
But because I knew you...

Because I knew you...

I have been changed for good.

And just to clear the air
I ask forgiveness
For the things I've done,
You blamed me for.

But then,
I guess,
We know there's blame to share.

And none of it seems to matter anymore.
Like a comet pulled from orbit
(Like a ship blown from its mooring)
As it passes a sun.
(By a wind off the sea)
Like a stream that meets a boulder
(Like a seed dropped by bird)
Halfway through the wood.
(In the wood)
Who can say if I've been changed for the better.
I do believe I have been changed for the better.

And because I knew you...

Because I knew you...

Because I knew you
I have been changed...
For good.
